Steven M. Muskal, Ph.D.

With over 38 years of experience at the intersection of AI, chemistry, biology, and drug discovery,  Steven Muskal has dedicated his career towards improving healthspan, medicine, and general well-being. He is the founder of Sertanty, Inc. and Chief Executive Officer of Eidogen-Sertanty,  a company that develops and deploys solutions to accelerate the discovery and development of novel therapeutics. He holds a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of California, Berkeley - where he was an early pioneer in the use of neural networks in protein structure prediction (Thesis: Predicting Features of Protein Structure with Computer Simulated Neural Networks, 1991) - and a B.Sc. in Engineering Chemistry and Computer Science from the Colorado School of Mines (1988).


Before establishing Sertanty, he served as Vice President of Informatics for Libraria, Inc., helping to secure financing while responsible for technology development and operational activity. Before joining Libraria, he served as Unit Director at the Affymax Research Institute and as a member of the Glaxo Wellcome Scientific Computing Board. At Affymax, he directed departments focusing on advanced technologies in parallel synthesis, lead optimization (ADME), and research computing. He held Product Manager, Senior Scientist, and Application Scientist positions at Molecular Design Limited (MDL Information Systems) while designing, developing, and marketing chemical informatics software. 


He has co-authored and contributed to over 50 publications and patents and has participated in several drug discovery programs in collaboration with academic and industry partners. He is also an advisor to several companies that leverage AI and data science. He is driven by the vision of transforming medicine and healthspan through the application of cutting-edge technologies and scientific insight.



He is a fitness enthusiast and drummer and particularly enjoys playing music with and recording sessions with different combinations of musicians in his music studio.

Below are a few samples from various "Mix-n-Match" sessions. Each week, different combinations of musicians are invited with no specific setlist or plan.  Many have never played the song before or played together. We tend to only do a single run through for each song. Recording is continuous during a session using OBS which cycles through different cameras leveraging break detection between songs. Each session is like Gump’s box of chocolates - “You never know what you're gonna get."
